STUDENT TEACHING

Well I hitched a ride back to Utah to start my student teaching in the WINTER. I taught at Mountain View High School in OREM.

It was a crazy semester. I remember grading, , more grading, lesson plans, working at night at Legends Grill, grading, making new lesson plans, and trying to figure out how to use more multimedia. I watched tons of history movies.

Overall, I loved student teaching. I actually student taught with Mr. David Carpenter. The same person my older sister taught with. He is an amazing teacher. I hope one day to be half as good.

The semester was busy. We started with Spanish American War! We created our own political cartoons. Then I dressed up like a flapper girl, had students make WWI propaganda posters, and we created music videos following the 1920s and 1930s. Then we were off to WWII, the Holocaust and the dropping atomic bomb. I'm still not sure how we covered all of that material in 3 months!

I loved my first period class. They were usually halfway asleep and more than happy to do what I asked of them. Second period was a completely different story. I swear their first period teachers gave them tons of sugar. They tested my limits everyday. If that wasn't enough I had this class for an extra twenty minutes for study hall. Two hours! I had a break third period in time for fourth period. This class was the "smart' class. They were fun to teach because they were involved. I had to know my stuff inside and out because they would challenge me. Also my spelling abilities were brought into question many times during that class.

By the end of the semester I was very sad to leave my students. When Mr. Carpenter started teaching again it felt so weird. He was teaching my students! The students I was looking at were no longer just students in a classroom. Each one had a name, face, and personality. Mr. Carpenter bought me a history book and had each student sign it. I read through that book whenever I need to smile.
