Today we headed to Lowell Massachusetts the birthplace of the textiles and industrialization in America. I was really excited for this. Many Irish women came here as immigrants began to take over the work place.First we went to the textile museum. Here in the picture I am trying to life a bale of cotton. It took both Deidre and I to lift it.
Afterwards we headed to the a little museum about the women living and working there. They had a display of one of the rooms that about four girls would live in. For the past four years I have lived with a lot of girls in very close quarters but nothing that small. I don't know how they did it. It was interesting to hear the different accounts of women those who didn't seem to mind the work and others who viewed it as an infringement on their freedom.
