Well I finally started working!!! After two or three months of jumping through hopes for this job, I finally got to start working. I just completed my second week :)So basically I give tours of the home that JFK was born in. Its a lot of fun. However the first week was interesting. I was observing a few tours. This one tour had two Italians who did not understand any English, a family of three from South America--the dad did not speak English, the mother was translating, and they had a really cute two year old that wanted to touch everything, and then our last group is a family of three from Florida the parents appear to be hug JFK fans and their 16 year old daughter does not want to be there.
As the tour began things were a little crazy lots of different things going on. The two year old is going crazy and the mom is trying to translate and the Italians are trying to figure out what is going on. Finally the two your old walks up to the mom and asks for milk. The mother proceeds to start breast feeding the child in the middle of tour. The woman is also still translating. I could see the anger in the man from Florida slowly building up as the group got louder making it hard for him to hear the tour guide. I had no idea how to prevent it. He then explodes yelling at the women translating. She tells him to cool out and to ask nicely. Then complete silence...we proceeded with the rest of the tour. It was probably the most awkward 15 minutes of my life.
Also this week. The princesses from the United Arab Emirates came to the house to have a tour. They had the most expensive purses I have ever seen!!! It was pretty cool.
The house is in the middle of a nice neighborhood. You have to walk down a lane with huge trees. Every morning this older couple is eating breakfast on their front porch. They say hi to everyone they see. I look forward to seeing them everyday.
It also takes me about an hour and half to get to work and then back home again. It feels like I am in London trying to get to church again but everyday of the week. However, I do love public transportation.
