Museums, Parks, and Vivaldi

Today I woke up and went running in Hyde Park.. It was beautiful. The sun was rising over the water.

I then went to a Bones Exhibit at the Wellcome Museum. I went for an assignment in my history class. I was so surprised at the different details they gave about the people just from looking at their bones. One lady was paralyzed in the face. They could tell because she had a lot of particles on her teeth that wouldn’t have normally been there. One guy smoked a lot. His teeth had moved over to create a hole for his pipe.

I then went to the British Museum. I didn’t get lost either! We did take a detour. We saw this really weird white thing in a park. It is actually a model of a building they are proposing to build. As we walked through the park there was a giant eye ball balloon. It was all very random. Then we got to the museum; they were having Roman theme day. There were tons of interactive games for the kids. There were men dressed up like Roman soldiers fighting each other and some women who were dancing. And we didn’t even plan for this. I went and looked at the Parthenon things. It was so cool. But at the same time sad that those items aren’t were they belong in Greece. I couldn’t believe how big the columns to the Parthenon were. They have the top of a column and that part is taller than me length and width wise. I then went and explored the Roman rooms on the upper floor.

Tonight I attended a Vivaldi Four Seasons concert in St. Martin’s in the Fields. It was music to my ears. A lot of people fell asleep, but I couldn’t get over the fact that I was in Trafalgar Square in a church that was 300 years old listening to some of the best music I have ever heard. Mom I wish you could have heard it.

Tomorrow I’m off to my new ward--a tube ride, a train, and another tube ride. Hopefully I make it there on time.

Oh I forgot. Today when I was coming back from the British Museum, there were some British kids that got off at the same tube stop at me. You have to take an elevator to get out and in their very proper British accents they were fighting over which elevator would come first. When we finally got on the elevator they started singing If you're Happy and You Know It clap your hands. They actually got about half of the people on the elevator to sing a long (myself included). It was really fun.

Dan! I'm so glad I found your blog! You look wonderful and it looks like you are having the time of your life. I'm so happy for you. Will you take a run for me one day out there in the beautiful London scenery? I'm completely jealous.

Sounds like things are going really well. Think you'll develop an accent? Again jealous of the museum--I think England has ripped stuff off from everywhere so it is the best place to study ancient history.
