Sunday and First Day of Classes

Yesterday we attended a singles ward in London and then we were split up into individual family wards. Two different Stake Presidents spoke to us about the diversity among the wards. One of the stakes has like 107 different nationalities. So I'm really excited to go to my ward next week.

Today I woke up and went running in Hyde Park. It was so gorgeous. I thought it was a little cold but no else did. What a surprise!! I had three classes today. My favorite was my humanities class because we get to go to lots of museums.

After class I took a long walk around the area where we live. I got to see Portobello Road; it was really cool. When I arrived back at the London center I spoke with some of the workmen fixing things. They were complaining about what a hot day it was. They looked to me for agreement and I just laughed and told them I was from Arizona and I thought the weather was beautiful. They were friendly and told me about some cool shopping places.

I also took a walk around Londinium; the London city limits during the Roman times. Above is a picture at the tower of London. I walked there with Ashely and Lindsay from the program so it was a lot of fun. Near the Tower of London there is a large sundial with a stone time line around it. One of the events was about Queen Boudicaa. We stopped at several beautiful churches that survived the Great Fire of 1666.

The last church we stopped at was closing but the man there was nice enough to let us in. It made our evening. He talked to us about some of his American friends. While riding the tube home I suddenly became very aware that the people in our group were the only ones talking. The British people are quiet and reserved, very unlike our culture. British computer paper is also longer than our paper so all of our folders have our papers sticking out of them.

Sounds like you are off to a great start! Which ward are you in? You will have to go back to Portobello on Saturday!

Oh Danielle, I wish I were there with you!! It sounds like soo much fun. And I love hearing about the random things like that their paper is longer and sticks out of your folders. That actually would be annoying, would they have folders that would fit their abnormal paper? Love ya!
