We left bright and early on Wednesday morning and traveled to Stourhead. The Stourhead Gardens were designed by Henry Hoare II. He dammed the River Stour to form a lake in his back yard. I’m not sure you can call it a back yard even. It’s a massive estate with about a two mile hike of beautiful landscapes with classical architectures placed throughout the walk. The most well known structure is Temple of Apollo (goddess of love). For those of you that have seen the new Pride and Prejudice this is where Darcy proposes for the first time. It was amazing to see. Everything was so green. Some of the leaves were beginning to change colors, but a lot of flowers were still in bloom. Seeing the two seasons right next to each other was really neat contrast. It was super peaceful to just walk through the gardens. I took tons of pictures some funny, some picturesque, and some plain. While exploring the area we found these huge trees. There were six of us and we tried to stand around the tree and connect arms to huge the tree and we couldn’t get all the way around the tree.
I did a round off in front of the house so it looks like I’m doing a hand stand in front of the house. You might have also seen my picture jumping at Stonehenge so I’m trying to think of creative things to do in front of buildings so its not so boring. If you have any ideas let me know. But the beauty of the gardens is the peace and the respect for nature you feel when visiting there. The house was closed so we were unable to go inside.
In case any of you are wondering if I’m really doing school work here…I am. The house was modeled after a French style called Palladian. I get to write a paper about it. Our professors are really neat. This trip was fun because we go to know them a lot better. I have decided to call Prof. Whimmer Santa Clause because every time we got back on the bus he either gives of us some kind of sweet or a rock. He gave us toffee here and brushed off all of our shoes as we got on the bus.
On our drive we saw this huge chalk outline of a guy in the grass. It was really random. We also passed Stonehenge again. I can’t get over the fact that you can’t just drive by that. It was really neat to see from the window of our bus again.
Then we headed for Thomas Hardy’s house. Mom just to let you know I took a video of the outside of the house so you can get a feel for it and Prof. Whimmer found some of the flint that house is made out of so I got a piece of it too. We were also supposed to go see the house where he wrote a lot of stuff but we ran out of time to get there.
We stayed in a Youth Hostile provided for by the YMCA in Penzance. They fed us dinner and breakfast. It was really frustrating because they didn’t have any plugs in the bathrooms or bedrooms. It made doing you hair hard. A lot of people went out to go look at the ocean I was exhausted so I stayed in and finished reading Jane Eyre.

I have never been to Stourhead! I am soooo jealous, it has become a favorite for my parents when they take a group. They say that the house is neat, but, the grounds are the best part. How was the hostel? They can be so hit or miss.
Remember what I did for prom with me at different places in London and Paris holding up those stupid signs?! You should totally find something to say on some signs maybe even send out the photos or post them later...it was really easy and turned out dang cool.
Oh my gosh, how do you do your hair in humid conditions?? I'm sure it's easier now that it's short but does it ever dry?
No you hair doesn't dry without a blow dryer....especially mine with how thick it is. My hair is always crazy frizzy!!
