I went to Hampton Court today. I was really excited to go but I got really bus sick on the way there. It was no fun. I felt terrible the whole time but I pushed through.
The wood carvings in the main dinning room were absolutely amazing. I’m not really sure how they could carve stuff like that with wood. Henry VIII primarily used this palace to entertain guests. They entertained so many people that they had to eat dinner in two settings. After seeing how big that room its hard to believe that they couldn’t all fit in there.
Next we saw the private chapel. The wood work in the ceiling in here was even better. The painting is still intact. It is the original paint also which is amazing. One of the older guides came up and talked to us. She talked to us for a while and gave us a lot of the history of the room she was really sweet. Edward Henry VIII only son was christened and born in the rooms connecting to the chapel. His mother died a few days later. Christopher Wren also did some of the refurbishing to the room. He didn’t want to put in a new window so there is a fake window. We had no idea that it was fake until the lady pointed it out.
The grounds were also beautiful. We started off by doing the maze. It was lots of fun to run through. The program actually paid for our lunch it was really exciting. I got lamb stew it was really yummy and tasted a lot different than I expected it too.
After dinner we walked around the gardens and took lots of fun pictures. My favorite part of the gardens was how many different types of birds are still there. It was really neat to watch them flying around.
I still wasn’t feeling well when we got home so I decided to go to bed really early.
