I left extremely early in the morning for Scotland. We took a plane because we only had two days before we had to be back at the center for Sunday. I got to Scotland early in the morning. I went straight to the Edinburgh Castle. I liked this castle better than the Tower of London. It sits up on a hill and is absolutely amazing. My favorite part was seeing the Stone of Destiny. Edward I stole this stone from Scotland when he took over the country. England has had the stone underneath the coronation chair in Westminster Abbey for a really long time. Elizabeth II recently gave it back to Scotland but it is still brought to England if another monarch is put on the throne. The crown jewels go back a lot further in history because Cromwell destroyed all of the English crown jewels. The Scott’s hid their jewels. They were hidden for 111 years. Sir Walter Scott ordered the box with the treasures in it opened.
Then we saw the Sir Walter Scott monument. It was huge. The Bank of Scotland prints its own notes. They are still pounds and can be used in both parts of the UK but its way weird. That would be like Arizona printing its own money. Scotland kept this power because of Sir Walter Scott. No wonder the Scotts like Scott.
I went to the Scotland’s National Gallery. Not as cool as England’s but there were still some Raphael, Titain, Rembrandt, Poussin, Peter Paul Rubens, Velasquez and a lot more. It was neat because I have gotten use to these painters so we could quiz each other and guess who painted which painting. I know it sounds really nerdy but it was fun.
Then we found our hostel and took a nap because we were really tired. Then I saw Marry Poppins. It was an amazing musical. It was great to watch because I have been to a lot of the places in the musical—St. Paul’s and Hyde Park. In the musical there are no penguins but the statues come to life. And Marry Poppins flew out into the audience at the end. The tap dancing was amazing. The crowd was a lot of fun too. People started clapping a long with the songs. There were a lot of kids there so I was a totally different crowd.
