Saturday I went to a Mozart and Handel concert at St. Martin's in the Field. The first half of the show was very engaging. There was a piano soloist who sounded amazing. The second half was a little dry but I still really love hearing music. One of the glass windows in the church does this really cool spiral circle thing. I can't describe it but I didn't take a picture of it. I'll have to get one next time. Also on the way to the concert. Rebecca got stuck in the tube. The doors just shut on her. I had to be she woman to open the doors enough for her to get out.
Sunday was a rather distressing day, which it should not be. Many of you have heard my tales of getting to church but this is probably the best. I got my train ticket the night before so we wouldn't be late again. It takes forever to buy your ticket after you get off the tube. A lady at church suggested this and I thought it was a great idea. Right? WRONG. We got on the tube to go to church in plenty of time but it stopped for ten minutes. We still had time to catch our train but we ran through the tube and train stations just in case. Our train was not running. You read that right. The train to Dorking is not running, forget that I've taken the exact same train every Sunday.
I was distraught. The London transportation system provided a bus service to replace the train but we had no idea how to get to the busses and what bus we should take. (Incidentially they wouldn't refund the money I paid for the train ticket because a bus was provided but I still HAD to pay for the bus and they sold me a ticket for a train that WAS NOT RUNNING.) We finally figured out what bus we need to get on. We got there couldn't find our bus. Lame. I asked one of the bus drivers. She didn't know anything about the replacement bus but told me how to get to Mitcham Junction on another bus. We found the bus got on it.
Well fifty minutes later we still are not at church and finally arrive at our bus stop. I think we were in the right area but we could not find the tram station that we use after the train anywhere. I think the bus driver was mistaken. We had to figure out how to get back to the London center. After traveling for about three and half hours and not making it to church I ended up back at the Center. I was upset because I really just wanted to go to church and get there on time. I don't think that is too much to ask.
Today I got back to classes. Lots of homework to do. Mid terms and papers are due this week. I did the Whitehall walk today. I figured out how to walk from Parliament all the way back to the London Center. It was amazing--the city makes so much more sense. I had already seen most of the things on the walk Westminster, Parliament, Banqueting House, Buckingham Palace, and the Horsegaurd Calvary. But I had not seen St. James Palace. This one is really different because it is made out of red brick. It was really neat.
