Today I made a very important pilgrimage I traveled to Canterbury. It was actually kind of a sad day because I felt really sick all day but I didn’t let that get to me.

So I got to inside the church that thousands of pilgrims have come too. It is also were Thomas Beckett was slaughtered the deed that totally overshadows Henry II reign. It is really sad that this had to happen because Henry II did a lot to promote common law. I was so excited to see the room where he was slain. Its hard to image how different the city would have been during his time.
The cathedral was really amazing. There was a display of some of the jewels the church owns. I spent a lot of time here. There was this set of engravings in the shape of big pennies depicting Christ’s life. I really like them. There was also a tiny pocket sun dial there. I couldn’t really figure out how it works but I had no idea they had pocket sun dials. On some of the walls you can also see faint outlines for sketches that were never completed. Also some of the original medieval stain glass windows survived the effects of the reformation.

After Canterbury we went to Chartwell. I didn’t really find the inside of the house that interesting. They were getting ready to close the house so things were a little different than they would really have been. The outside of the house had a scaffolding all around it. But the view from the house is amazing. You really get to see a lot of English land from his house. Winston painted a lot over 500 pieces we got to see a lot of these. I have no idea how he lead a country through a war and found time to paint all of these things. Watching the movie on Monday night made me appreciate the house more.

We came home and I was so tired and not feeling well I immediately went to bed and slept for ten hours. It was amazing.
